KARACHI, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - A United States-based firm has been given the go-ahead by the Pakistani government to carry out a feasibility study for a new coal-fired power station.
The Ministry of Water and Power (Private Power Infrastructure Board) has issued a Letter of Interest (LoI) to Smith Co-generation Management Inc, based in Oklahoma in the US, to carry out feasibility study for the 450MW coal-fired power station at Lakhra in district Dadu.
The project envisages foreign private investment of around $US450 million.
The Government of Sindh/Sindh Coal Authority, in February 1995, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Smith Co-generation Management Inc for construction of the coal-fired power station at Lakhra.
An area of 8622 acres has already been leased to the sponsors for development of the coal mines at Lakhra.
