A year ago, I was assigned a story that became an interesting project: Determine the five most important tools in hockey.
The five tools in baseball are simple--hitting for average, hitting for power, speed, throwing ability and fielding. To determine a comparable list for hockey, I consulted with at least a dozen experts to figure out which tools of the trade are most desirable. With them, I could make a list of near-perfect players.
We came up with speed, strength, skills, intelligence and character/presence, and we singled out 15 players for attention.
