Sometimes it appears the private school community has its own language. Is an independent school the same as a private school? If a school is accredited what does that mean? Is a licensed school the same as an accredited school?

Basically, schools fall into two categories: public and private. Funding for public schools comes from public tax dollars while funding for private schools comes from non-public or private dollars, primarily the tuition paid by families.
