Mechanics' liens are an important tool to help collect money owed for labor and material furnished to construction projects in Georgia. The lien statutes in Georgia are strictly construed, and a party claiming a lien must strictly comply with the statutes.
Who Can File a Lien?
1. Liens may be filed by:
(a) The general contractor who has contracted directly with the owner
(b) Subcontractors (including subcontractors who have not contracted directly with the general contractor), mechanics, material-men, suppliers and laborers
(c) Registered architects, land surveyors and professional engineers
(d) Machinists, manufacturers of machinery and lessons of machinery, if the machinery is attached as a fixture to the property
