Gov. Jane Dee Hull recently appointed Victor Mendez director of the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Mendez, who served as deputy director of the department since 1999, replaces Mary Peters, who now heads the Federal Highway Administration in Washington, D.C.
Mendez has been acting director since July when Peters was nominated for the federal post.
"I'm pleased to name a veteran ADOT employee as the new director," Hull said late last month. "Victor knows the transportation system throughout the state, and he is the right person to supervise the completion of the Valley freeway system."
