SEOUL, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - This year's production of barley grew 69 per cent from last year to reach 383,000 tons, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said Thursday.
The National Agricultural Cooperatives Federation (NACF) will purchase 289,000 tons of barley from private farmers and supply 66,000 tons for general and military consumption, while 111,000 tons will be allocated for soju makers, a local distilled liquor.
An NACF official said inventory levels should be sufficient to meet barley consumption in the country for the next two years.
