TAIPEI, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Premier Chang Chun-hsiung instructed the government to strengthen management and control of tourist attractions across the island so as to upgrade tourism quality in line with 2002's international ecological tourism year.
Chang issued the directive after hearing a report on domestic tourist development presented by government agencies at the weekly Cabinet meeting.
He called on the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) and the Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture (COA) to strengthen management and control of tourist attractions.
Chang pointed out that as partial tourist development projects have lagged behind schedule because of financial problems and natural disasters, the government should speed up efforts to implement the projects, especially with Taiwan's imminent entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Chang also instructed MOTC and COA officials to speed up the planning of a Mt. Ali national landscape special zone construction project and the cultural conservation and reuse project of Taiwan's old mountain railway ...
