MELBOURNE, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Australian Prime Minister John Howard today reiterated his promise the government would not raise taxes if it won back government on November 10.

"That is our commitment and that remains our commitment," he told Melbourne radio station 3AW.

"We have no plans to increase taxes."

When asked if that was a promise, Mr Howard said: "Yes".

While he stood by the government's policies, Mr Howard said Labor's pledge it would get money back from tax dodgers was the ultimate envy magic pudding.

"If you've got a shortfall you say `Oh well, we'll get it all from tax avoiders'," he said.
