TOKYO, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire Asia-AsiaNet/ -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (Nasdaq: IIJI) ("IIJ"), Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive solutions provider, today announced that it will add faster speed services of 8Mbps over the regional NTTs' ADSL open lines beginning December 25, 2001. The new addition will be applicable to the Company's IIJ DSL/F, Enterprise Dialup IP services, and IIJ4U Internet connectivity services. Subscribers using the existing 1.5Mbps ADSL Internet services will be able to upgrade to the 8Mbps bandwidth at no extra cost and will continue to pay the same monthly charges. The 8Mbps service will initially be available in 15 areas around the country (Hokkaido, Miyagi, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Toyama, Ishikawa, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Okayama, Hiroshima and Fukuoka), with the scope will be widened as the regional NTTs expand their service area for ADSL open lines.

"Within the expanding broadband Internet access market, ADSL Internet connectivity with 8Mbps access is becoming the standard," said Koichi Suzuki, President and CEO of IIJ. "As a first step in assuring that IIJ is at the forefront of that change, we announced that we will launch the 8Mbps lineup for the IIJmio DSL/De service on November 5, 2001. These imminent upgrades to our Internet connectivity services further shows that we are committed to providing optimal broadband Internet services to all our users. We will continue to emphasize our highly-regarded service quality in terms of throughput and support."
