CHARLOTTE COUNTY -- A six-car pileup on the Peace River Bridge on Interstate 75 killed a woman and seriously injured a man Friday afternoon.

The northbound bridge was closed for nearly six hours, forcing long lines of I-75 traffic to be routed across to the U.S. 41 bridge, backing up traffic on that road as well.

Some of the I-75 traffic was detoured to U.S. 17, causing more delays.

The woman who died at the accident scene appeared to be in her 70s, said county fire spokeswoman Dee Hawkins. Her name and the name of the man who was seriously injured had not been released late …
