Abstract
This paper specifically addresses motivational problems encountered in the junior level MIS class. In the author's experience, small business cases based on his computer consulting experiences have had more teaching value than textbook-provided cases which tend to focus on larger companies. Also, more open-ended assignments with respect to computer software instruction encourage creativity. The author provides guidelines for presenting and discussing small business cases and divides these cases into four major categories. A complete example is provided for each category.
