ISLAMABAD : The government has decided to impose Central Excise Duty of Rs 5 per kg on raw sugar to save the local industry and the farming community, sources said.

The duty would be imposed on both imported and local if produced as finished product for direct sale.

Sources said that the raw-sugar is likely to be excluded from the DTRE regime to stop its re-export with or without refining.

The ECC of the Cabinet would take decision on Monday (today) on the proposal of the Ministry of Industries which is also supported by the Ministries of Commerce, Finance and Revenue division. …
