Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Member Marwan al-Barghuthi appeared without counsel and refused to enter a plea when his trial got under way Thursday [5 September] in the Tel Aviv District Court, according to his legal counsel Jawad Bolos.

Court officials briefly ordered journalists out of the courtroom after they shouted questions at the PLC member, who was himself briefly removed when he tried to answer.
