Vice-President George Saitoti should not be ignored in the succession debate, a Cabinet minister has warned.

Office of the President minister William ole Ntimama said Prof Saitoti was in the race for nomination as Kanu presidential candidate.

Mr Ntimama differed with President Moi on his preferred choice of Mr Uhuru Kenyatta as his heir in Kanu, saying Kenya was not a monarchy.

"Constitutionally, the Vice-President succeeds the President and I do not understand why he is being ignored in the succession debate. Prof Saitoti is in the presidential race," he said.
