THE BALI BOMBING naturally stimulated discussion about its origins. Was it targeted at us because we had been backing the USA? Was it targeted at Indonesians or Australians? Was it directed at Bali as a heathen cesspit full of pleasure-seeking infidels? Or as an example of obscene Western wealth? And so on.
Although plausible explanations can be advanced, I believe seeking rational answers is fundamentally misguided.
