What economic downturn?
Bentley's 2004 Continental GT is six months from production, but the waiting list is forming on the horizon. The company says 3200 potential buyers have plunked down $5,000 deposits for the $147,000 coupe-with production expected at only about 3500 cars per year starting this fall. That's good news for Bentley, whose parent company, Volkswagen, spent some $500 million to $800 million to develop the car.
Continental GT packs a 6.0-liter, W12 twin-turbo-charged engine producing more than 500 hp and 675 lb-ft of torque, with a top speed exceeding 190 mph, according to Bentley. The power gets to the road via a six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and a tuned-for-Bentley version of Audi's all-wheel-drive system.
