As a co-owner of the expansion Colorado Crush, John Elway went into this season wanting to win immediately.

But it hasn't worked out that way, and Los Angeles Avengers owner Casey Wasserman understands the difficulties a first-year team experiences. He recalled a conversation with Arena Football League commissioner David Baker, who explained the third year is the time to realistically expect winning results.

"While I tried to argue with the commissioner, saying we could do it in one year, it's exactly what happened," said Wasserman, whose Avengers went 8-6 and made the playoffs last season. "The Colorado Crush …
