After reading Jan Tritten's editorial "Out of the Pot, Into the Fire" [Issue 63], I had thoughts swarming in my head about the nature of midwifery and all the political aspects that have been added to it lately.

There is a huge movement to legislate midwifery and for midwives to be professionals. There is also the push for nurse-midwifery and direct-entry midwives to be lumped together.

I believe in women's ability to give birth. Their bodies, babies and instincts "know" how to give birth. Women who have low-risk normal births need support, love, education, information and empowerment.
