SANTA FE The frenzied pace of the Roundhouse came to a grinding halt as legislators paused to witness the opening moments of the U.S.-led war with Iraq.

Senior representatives kneeled in the crowded House lounge, staring at the stoic image of President Bush addressing the nation.

Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones, an Albuquerque Republican and wife of a retired Naval officer, dabbed tears from her eyes as the first round of antiaircraft fire flickered on the large television.
