Some teams in, others out
The IRL's non-participating teams are going different directions in their bids to join the fray. Among them: Access Motorsports has signed to have Greg Ray drive a G Force-Honda. Hemelgarn Racing tried in vain to get its Dallara-Chevy ready for Buddy Lazier to compete at Homestead. And Jeff Ward's bid to bring a sponsor to Bradley Motorsports has apparently failed.
Ferrari to build 575Ms
Ferrari will build 10 new 575M GT racers this year in conjunction with the ultra-successful N-technology Alfa Romeo touring car. Ferrari has finally confirmed that the V12-engined contender will be developed and built by N-technology, which has set up a new company involving DART Racing to undertake the project. Work started on the car in November and the first deliveries are not expected until midseason.
Salazar to ALMS
IRL refugee Eliseo Salazar is on course to contest the full American Le Mans Series with The Racer's Group Porsche team. The 48-year-old Chilean, who raced for A.J. Foyt Enterprises in the IRL last year, has signed to drive TRG's lead 911 GT3-RS in the ALMS opener at Sebring March 15. He will share the car with team boss Kevin Buckler and 1996 Sebring winner Jim Pace. ``Eliseo has a great pedigree,'' says Buckler. ``I'm working with a couple of sponsors to get him in the car for the full season.
