Nokia has picked the Bates network to spearhead its move into internet-driven communications around the world.
News of the win coincides with Bates' appointment of Aris Theophilakis, currently the regional creative director for Bates Asia, to the new role of creative director for Bates Europe.
Bates UK will handle Nokia's new activity for Europe, the Middle East and Africa out of London, while its network offices in Hong Kong and the Far East will cover that market.
The account was won in competition with Grey, which is on Nokia's global roster, and Ogilvy & Mather. It extends the telecoms company's relationship with Bates, which already handles its brand advertising across the Far East.
