2003 MAR 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- There is no evidence that the triple MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine causes immune system overload and makes children more vulnerable to serious bacterial infection, finds a new study. If anything, the jab seems to protect children, the study shows.

Researchers from the Public Health Laboratory Service monitored all cases of serious bacterial infection, such as septicemia and meningitis, and pneumonia among 1- to 2-year-old children admitted to the hospital within 3 months of an MMR jab. The hospitals were all in the former Thames region in southern England, and the monitoring period lasted from April 1991 to March 1995.

They identified 436 hospital admissions in children who had been vaccinated with the MMR jab in the preceding 3 months. Forty-one cases were excluded because the children had an underlying condition or were readmissions.
