WASHINGTON Veteran police investigator Glenn A. Walp lowered his voice with palpable rage when a congressman asked him if the University of California should continue to manage world-renowned Los Alamos National Laboratory.

"My personal opinion is that it is time to gut the place, it is so infected," Walp told the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee to the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday.
