To turn a seriously skimpy brow into a thing of beauty, use a brow shadow--they're easy to blend and create a more realistic effect when you have a lot of filling in to do, says NYC makeup artist Ramy Gafni, creator of Ramy Beauty Therapy. Choose a shadow in a color that's one shade lighter than your natural brow hue (unless your brows are a pale blond, in which case you should go one shade darker). To apply, start from the full part of the brow by your nose and follow the natural line of your arch, pressing lightly for even coverage. Use an eyebrow brush (or a baby toothbrush) to blend the powder in so the effect is even. We like Ramy Miracle Brow kit, $24, and Eliza's Brow Powder, $18.
conditioner confusion
Since my hair is superdry, I thought it would be a good idea to use a deep conditioner every day. Isn't it better than a regular formula?
Deep conditioners pack a powerful punch because they contain high concentrations of hydrating ingredients that really penetrate the hair shaft, says David Cannell, senior vice president of research and development for Redken. "Daily formulas usually just stick to the surface of the hair, providing instant results but no long-term benefits." Unless your locks are seriously dried out, you should use a deep treatment only once a week to avoid gunky buildup. However, if your tresses are superparched, NYC salon owner Mark Garrison suggests using a deep conditioner once a day for three days, then alternating a deep conditioner with a daily product for a week. Two tress hydrators to try: Redken Extreme Treatment (a deep conditioner), $12.95, and Extreme Conditioner (a daily conditioner), $9.95.
