Mustang guts and glory
Regarding ``Fast Glory'' (Cover Story, Jan. 27): Sorry Ford, ``retro'' doesn't move a company into the future. Looks like nowadays management desperately attempts to capitalize on past glory to cover up modern mistakes. Ford needs to focus (get it?) on quality, product and new design to bring it into the future, not attempts at historical mediocrity.

The car looked good. Then I read the article. Solid axle rear suspension?
Okay, here's how to do it. Fully independent suspension and three total gearboxes: slushbox, five-speed and a six-speed with the long overdrive (my Z-28 delivers 28 mpg on long hauls). One V6, one V8 and an SVT car. We care about the V8, so give it about 325 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque down low. Do a simple interior (with tach and temp gauges). And bring it in at under 3000 pounds.
