Motown mojo at the Detroit show
Your Jan. 20 cover photo is a classic: the ugly Cadillac Sixteen as Best in Show in Detroit. With its disproportionate dimensions and mix of sharp edges with curved A-pillars, I don't see how you can give it that award.
Did you notice that of all the people in that photo, only a few are looking at the car? One is a woman who appears on the verge of laughter, another points his camera away from the car, a third drinks bottled water while another is so disinterested he's on his cell phone. He's probably talking to his broker, telling him to sell his GM stock.
Dave Oeskovic, Raritan, N.J.
Ford has a hit on its hands with the 2005 Mustang, unless they blow it with the production execution. My current car is a BMW 330ci and I've never looked at a Ford. But that GT concept-if they deliver it with that exterior and can come close to that interior-I'm sold. Keep the tacky logos and badges off, and keep (or at least offer) Brembos. While I'm asking, can they borrow F1 paddle-shifter technology from Jaguar?
Bob Nighan, Glastonbury, Conn.
I love the feeling I get from just looking at the Mustang! But Ford must outsource the manual transmission design and production to a European counterpart. Ford has never been known for its smooth manual tranny or clutch.
