2003 FEB 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Denmark's military started issuing anthrax vaccine to some of its troops, although the NATO member country hasn't committed any troops for possible military action in Iraq.
Surgeon Gen. Hans-Michael Jelsdorf, head of the Defense Health Service, said that soldiers being vaccinated were ones "who be could be considered in connection with an assignment in the Gulf area."
"We are talking about all kinds of soldiers - on land, at sea and in the air," he said, but didn't say how many. Denmark's military has 30,000 personnel.
The anthrax vaccine was added to the list of inoculations given to all Danish soldiers who serve abroad, including Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.
The first anthrax vaccines have already been given because it takes "some time before the human body starts producing anti-substances," he said.
