Smoking ban veto to be challenged.(Afternoon)

City Councilor Michael Cadigan thought he drafted a bill Mayor Martin Chavez would support.

When the mayor called for a new Clean Indoor Air Ordinance that banned smoking in restaurants, but not bars, Cadigan thought he answered the mayor's request, he said.

Apparently he was wrong.

On Tuesday, Chavez vetoed the legislation the City Council had passed earlier this month and introduced his own bill.

"It's so poorly drafted and so vague, it's virtually unenforceable," Chavez said of Cadigan's bill when he vetoed it. "I would've signed this if I thought it was enforceable." …
