German publisher Heinrich Bauer Verlag will have to wait to acquire the core media assets of bankrupt Kirch Group after the U.S. Embassy in Berlin pressured Kirch to entertain a rival bid from Hollywood billionaire Haim Saban.

Sources confirmed Thursday, Jan. 16, that Munich-based Kirch has delayed closing the sale of its film rights library, as well as a 52.5% stake in private broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, to have its adviser UBS Warburg review Saban's bid. The delay could uncover why Saban had been shut out of the bidding despite offering a better price and possessing qualifications many consider unparalleled for …
