That's the cord of letters that spelled victory for 13-year-old Chris Moore of Sedgefield Middle School in Goose Creek in the annual Berkeley County School District Spelling Bee.
He outlasted 39 other middle school students through a grueling eight rounds to pit him against neighboring Sedgefield Intermediate fifth-grader Ranz Erazzo in the final one-on-one bouts.
In the 10th round, they both spelled "solace" incorrectly. The contest quickly navigated to "superfluous," but Erazzo omitted a "u," leaving the door open for Moore to try to spell it correctly.
