For the century America has been on wheels, the Detroit area has been the industry's mecca, which is why automotive enthusiasts should plan a pilgrimage to Dearborn, Michigan, this summer for Ford Motor Co.'s 100th anniversary. As one of a handful of family-run companies in the United States to reach the century mark with a family member still in control, Ford plans a five-day blowout celebration called ``The Road Is Ours'' that includes car shows, technology displays, concerts, fireworks and factory tours.
Anniversary activities take place June 12-16 on the 152 acres surrounding the Henry Ford II World Center. ``The area is bigger than the [Walt Disney] Magic Kingdom, just to give you perspective,'' says Jim O'Connor, group vice president North American marketing, sales and service for Ford.
