All in the family

NASCAR has promoted another member of the France family and added another ``outsider'' to its board of directors. Brian France, son of chairman of the board, Bill France, has been promoted from executive vice president to vice chairman of the board. It's a title he'll share with his uncle, Jim France, Bill's younger brother. And George Pyne has been promoted from senior vice president to chief operating officer and added to the board of directors. Pyne and NASCAR president Mike Helton are the only members of the board not related to the late Bill France Sr., who founded NASCAR in 1948 and ran it until turning it over to Bill Jr. in 1972. The other board members are Bill Jr., Jim, Brian and Lisa France Kennedy, daughter of Bill France Jr.

Yates shuffles personnel

Robert Yates Racing has made several major personnel changes. Doug Yates, son of team owner Robert, is the organization's new general manager. Todd Parrott has been promoted from crew chief to director of competition. He'll be in charge of long-range planning, special projects, some race-day planning and technical matters. Brand Parrott (Todd's younger brother) is Dale Jarrett's new crew chief on the No. 88 UPS Ford, and Raymond Fox III will be crew chief for newcomer Elliott Sadler on the No. 38 M&M's Ford.
