2003 Saturn Ion
Date in fleet: Dec. 18-23 As-tested price: $13,855 Powertrain: 2.2-liter I4; fwd, five-speed automatic Hp: 140 @ 5800 rpm Torque: 145 @ 4400 rpm Curb weight: 2766 lbs
KOVACH: I suppose Saturn wanted to make the Ion resemble the long-lived S series it's replacing. But for being all-new, this car's looks aren't new or cool. It would have been nice if Saturn had stepped up to make it more sporty or daring in design. It's okay, but nothing special as you can feel overall GM-ness-rather than pure, independent Saturn. It's an American car at a Kia price, but I'd want a Kia warranty to go with it.
MORRISON: I only drove this car for about 500 yards when I moved it from the garage to the visitor's lot for pickup, but I still found something to complain about: Why the hell is the steering wheel so small? Bizarre.

PAVIA-RAUCHMAN: Likes: The price, the cupholders-which hold mug-style cups ...
