Movies West is going discount.

Beginning Friday the eight-screen theater on the West Side will be changing its format from first-run showings to films just past their prime.

The new format will bring ticket prices during the week down to $1 before 4 p.m. and $1.50 after 4 p.m. Weekend prices will be $2.

"This just seemed to be the right time to do this in Albuquerque," said Terrell Falk, a spokeswoman for Cinemark USA Inc., which owns Movies West and Movies 8, another discount movie theater in town. "We've always done well in New Mexico."
