FDA panel votes against approval for breast imaging system.(Radiological Devices Panel votes against Computerized Thermal Imaging's infrared breast imaging system)(Brief Article)
2003 JAN 16 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Computerized Thermal Imaging (CTI) (CIO) announced that the FDA's Radiological Devices Panel recommended by a narrow vote of 4-to-3 that the FDA deny approval of CTI's infrared breast imaging system.
The two nonvoting members of the panel, representing industry and consumers, both made strong statements in support of CTI's breast imaging technology. While the panel members affirmed that they believe the company's breast imaging technology is promising, the panel indicated that it needed additional information before it could recommend that the FDA should approve the technology.
A formal decision will follow from the FDA in due course.
