2003 JAN 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Greece's Cultural Olympiad, which is organizing cultural events leading up to the 2004 Olympic Games, will donate U.S. $7 million to UNICEF to vaccinate 1.4 million children around the world, a Greek minister says.
In exchange, the U.N. agency for children's welfare will use 12 designs relating to the themes of sports and culture developed with the Cultural Olympiad for its 2003 Christmas and 2004 spring greeting cards.
"These cards will use sports motifs to convey messages of peace, intercultural understanding and goodwill. These are the values that the two organizations share," UNICEF deputy executive director Karin Sham Poo said.
"For UNICEF, this new partnership uses a lot of sense," she added. "UNICEF uses sports as a tool to reach children, to engage children and to help children learn healthy behaviors."
