My girlfriend's mother abused her as a child, so I found counseling for her when she confronted her parents. But now her parents blame me. When I proposed, her parents said if she married me, they would cut her off. I don't want to cause her family any more problems. What should I do?
If they are currently in ongoing family therapy together, their emotions are probably in flux, so you need to be patient. Chances are good that once they put their lives back together, they will allow you into their family. However, if your girlfriend went through counseling alone and only up to the point of confrontation with her parents, then they probably don't see their own guilt.
