Maybach's merits and faults

I wish Daimler-Benz good luck with the reborn Maybachs (AW, Dec. 2). Though I'm sure they have superb build quality, they look like overgrown Hyundai Sonatas. The headlight treatment is especially awkward, and the fabled hood ornament looks like the symbol on a Nabisco box.

Jeff Hulman, via e-mail

I'm impressed with the luxurious accommodations and technology, but if I were a corporate executive I would buy something I enjoy driving rather than riding in the back seat.

And the styling looks as if Hyundai or Kia penned it. There is not a single line or styling element that's interesting on that car. The money I stole from my employees' 401(k) should be spent on something better-looking, such as the S-Class or the new Audi A8. And sorry VW, I will not spend $70K on a Phaeton only to be forced to have my service performed at a lowly VW dealer. I must have my standards, you know.

Christian Long, Orlando, Fla.

You left out one key datum on the Maybach 62, which is visually a stretched Mercedes S500: The Maybach prices out at $1,488 per inch, while the Mercedes is a relative bargain at $419 per inch.
