Looking at old photographs, you can see the young racer in the No. 14 car bears a strong resemblance to the Hall of Fame driver who made the number famous in the 1960s. On the track, 18-year-old A.J. Foyt IV did more than a reasonable impersonation of his famous grandfather in 2002.
Foyt IV ran away with the Indy Racing League's inaugural Infiniti Pro Series championship, winning three of the seven races and four poles. The quiet kid from the plains of Hockley, Texas, won from the top spot three times (at Kansas, Kentucky and Texas).
``I thought he'd do a pretty good job,'' said A.J. Foyt Jr., the four-time Indianapolis 500 winner. ``And he did everything we asked of him, which is what I liked.''
Foyt IV also led five races and 212 of the 437 total laps (48.5 percent). St. Louis winner Ryan Hampton was second in that category with 80 laps.
