The 2002 motorsports season saw two major series with runaways and two series that went down to the last race of the season.
It was a summer where we saw the Ferrari Formula One team completely obliterate all comers, Michael Schumacher having secured his fifth world championship-in July.
CART experienced its usual amount of off-track challenges, but this year, unlike last, the on-track action overshadowed the political wrangling and boardroom contretemps. Cristiano da Matta won a dominant and well-deserved championship.
