On the grand scale of car design, Antony Grade and Eric Schumaker may be headed in different directions.

Grade is vice president of design for car programs at French automaker Renault, a company that isn't afraid to sketch with an element of risk. Its Twingo supermini, Kangoo mini-ute and the Avantime two-door luxury minivan are examples of its edgy vision. Grade, a United Kingdom native who got his start with Ford Europe, was brought to Renault as part of Patrick le Quement's design revitalization in the late '80s.
