Things are about to change in a big way 'round here. Check back next week to see what we mean.
* Nissan 350Z Touring
Price: $32,129
Engine: 3.5-liter V6, 287 hp, 274 lb-ft
Curb weight: 3239 lbs
Drivetrain: rwd, five-speed automatic
Well, it's a far cry from the Datsun Z of old, but the spirit of that endearing car lives on in the Nissan 350Z, much more so than in the previous iteration, the fat, overpriced 300ZX of 1996. For some around here, nothing else in its price range comes close to matching it for overall performance and style. The Z has a decent power-to-weight ratio, and handling is superb, magnified by its spot-on steering feedback. Suspension damping is pretty good, too, although over some uneven sections of pavement it tended to bounce a bit. And the seats: They look good, have great, thick leather and are really comfortable while at the same time exceptionally sporty. Like we said, it ain't a Datsun, but this is a change we can live with-and love.
