A 22-year-old woman has became the first known Hong Kong Pakistani to be granted Chinese nationality and an SAR passport as the Immigration Department braces itself for a surge in interest from ethnic minorities for naturalisation.

Since the South China Morning Post revealed about two weeks ago that the first known ethnic minorities without Chinese relatives had successfully applied for SAR passports, the department has received six applications and more than 50 inquiries from minorities.
