Dairy farmers protest milk production, demand action.

Hundreds of dairy farmers took to the street yesterday to appeal for legislation that would require the government to purchase raw milk produced at domestic dairy farms.

The demonstrators also demanded that a law be legislated to obligate dairy products manufacturers to honestly mark the fresh milk contents of their products on the packaging.

They marched from the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall complex in downtown Taipei to the Council of Agriculture (COA) office several blocks away to appeal for government action to help them survive competition from cheap foreign imports.
