THE COMPETITION TO host the World Expo in 2010 is heating up. With Shanghai and Moscow running neck-and-neck to host the world fair, Chinese officials claim the Russians are applying "psychological pressure" to win the bid.

The winning city will be announced in December. South Korea's Yosu is considered a dark horse, while Mexico's Queretaro and Poland's Wroclaw are thought to be out of the running.

When Russian Premier Mikhail Kasyanov flew into town last week, he took time to push Moscow's case in between calls to ban weapons in space and offers to sell oil to China.
