Dear Colleagues,
* On September 26-28, 1994, the Native American Women's Health Education Resource Center convened the Dakota Roundtable II to bring Native women together that represented all facets of the community to address the status of Native women.
The report that came out of the Dakota Roundtable II, The Status of Native American Women, will assist health care professionals, state officials, federal officials, tribal leadership, and community activists alike in their efforts to improve the status of Native women.
In as much as this report reflects the efforts of community participants of the Aberdeen area (North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska), it could also be used as a model for other areas.
The following are points that may assist us in reaching our goals:
* Recognize the traditional leadership roles that Native women have within their communities;
* Recognize the need to broaden the definition of community leadership beyond federal, state and tribal officials;
