ITEM: On The Progressive's website in early November, editor Matthew Rothschild bemoaned that the post-election landscape was "barren." Republicans, he predicted, "will have their way." The GOP will, for instance, be able to "cement Bush's retrograde tax cuts....

The Progressive was also harsh on Democrats for not being more aggressive. Said the editor, "The Democrats ought to be able to say: We'll give you a big raise, we'll give you free health care, we'll give your kids a free college education...."

CORRECTION: Many in the media--TV networks as well as radical magazines such as The Progressive--clamor for Republicans to moderate positions, even as they insist that Democrats become more extreme. The object: Keep pushing the "center" to the left. ...
