CHARLOTTE COUNTY -- County voters will be asked Nov. 5 to continue the local 1 percent sales tax for another six years.
Since 1994, when voters first approved the tax, the county has raised more than $100 million for capital projects such as emergency shelters, roads and parks. Extended in 1998, the current tax will expire Dec. 31 unless voters approve another.
Of the estimated $96 million the county would receive through the tax, $38.8 million, or about 40 percent, would go toward the construction of roads and sidewalks.
