Warm up the warp coils. And no "anomalies," please, temporal or otherwise. How bold "Star Trek: Nemesis" will be is anyone's guess, but old hands hope the pattern of even-numbered films in the series being the best will hold true once again. "Nemesis" is No. 10.

Director Stuart Baird and screenwriter John Logan are at the helm of Friday's new Trek adventure, the latest in Paramount Pictures' space-borne cash cow. All the "Next Generation" crew is back for what is alleged to be its final voyage.

Joining Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Whoopi Goldberg and all the original cast members are guest stars Tom Hardy (yet another colorful British-born villain), Ron Perlman and Dina Meyer, along with appearances by first series regular Majel Barrett (the widow of Gene Roddenberry who enjoyed a second life as Counselor Troi's mom on "Next Generation") and, most prominently, Kate Mulgrew as …
