You can trace the rise of Jack Roush, as both racer and entrepreneur, to a group called The Fastbacks.
``In 1965 I joined 10 Ford engineers, purchasing agents, nuclear physicists, lab technicians, public relations guys and engineers,'' recalls Roush, who was a young Ford engineer at the time. ``We put our money together and went racing.''
Over time, many of the others dropped out of The Fastbacks, so to keep drag racing Roush had to find a way to replace their financial contributions.
``The Detroit News had a hot rod section in its classified ads, and it ran for columns and columns in the 1960s,'' Roush says, ...
